Peer Review Process

The NAJWS would like to hear from anyone willing to contribute articles and reviews to the journal. We are especially keen to encourage postgraduates to publish their work and contribute reviews and ideas. Submissions may relate to any aspect of Welsh culture and history. All articles, provided they fall within the broad remit of the journal and meet academic standards, will be put into our review process. The NAJWS staff evaluates every manuscript. Those with the greatest promise are sent to members of the Board of Editors for further review. Upon recommendation by board members, essays are then sent to specialists for a final, anonymous review. All reviews are designed not only to evaluate the manuscript's suitability for publication in the NAJWS but also to help authors clarify their argument and explain its broader implications.Participation is fully voluntary; publication of work is not guaranteed; and no payment is offered. Authors retain rights, but we ask that authors credit The North American Journal of Welsh Studies if their work is republished. We seek:Scholarly research articles of 5000-8000 wordsSpeculative essays e.g. on Welsh history, Welsh literature, sport and Wales, the arts etc – 2000-3000 words. Please contact the editor with ideas for essays.Features: These can be about the interrelationship between academia and the public, reviews of exhibitions, other general news, conference reports etc. Up to 1000 wordsWe aim to make a decision within 4 months. Our principal consideration in determining whether an article should be published is its appropriateness to the audience of the NAJWS.
